Update on 13 June 2017 : According to the NHAI, the traffic volume is going to double once the work on Delhi-Meerut expressway is complete. Delhi government's PWD has revived the project for constructing a 2.5km-long tunnel between NH-24 and Lodhi Road
Update on 23 May 2017 : एनएचएआई के प्रोजेक्ट डायरेक्टर आरपी सिंह ने 23/05/2017 को बताया कि यूपी गेट से डासना तक एनएच-24 के चौड़ीकरण का इंतजार कर रहे लाखों लोगों के लिए राहत भरी खबर है। एनएचएआई अगले दस दिनों में औपचारिकताएं पूरी कर जून के पहले सप्ताह में हाईवे को 14 लेन चौड़ी करने का काम शुरू करेगा। वहीं हाईवे को जाम से निजात दिलाने के लिए अगले हफ्ते अवैध कट बंद किए जाएंगे।

हाईवे पर अगस्त 2017 से जाम झेलने को रहें तैयार - एनएच-24 पर जाम का संकट और गहरा होने जा रहा है। हालात अगले साल दिसंबर तक ऐसे ही रहने की उम्मीद है। प्रोजेक्ट डायरेक्टर ने बताया कि तीन-चार महीने सर्वे का काम चलेगा। अगस्त से भारी भरकम मशीनों के साथ एनएच पर काम शुरू होगा तो जाम लगना भी लाजिमी है। हालांकि ट्रैफिक दबाव को देखते हुए डायवर्जन नीति भी अपनाई जा सकती है
खोड़ा पहला पुश्ता के पास वाहन अंडर पास बनेगा। इससे आधा किमी आगे चलकर दूसरा अंडर पास होगा। फिर हर अंडरपास 400 से छह सौ मीटर की दूरी पर बनेगा। यानी एक अंडरपास से दूसरे की दूरी आधा किमी से भी कम होगी। हरनंदी पुल के बाद दो अंडरपास लक रोड और नोएडा एक्सटेंशन के पास बनेंगे। इसके बाद अगले दो अंडर पास तीन और चार किमी की दूरी पर और उससे आगे के सभी अंडर पास एक किमी की दूरी पर बनाए जाएंगे।
यूपी बार्डर पर नया ओवरब्रिज बनेगा। यमुना सेतु के अलावा अक्षरधाम, गाजीपुर व फ्रेट कांप्लेक्स (मछली मंडी) ओवरब्रिजों को चौड़ा किया जाएगा। मेट्रो लाइन व गाजीपुर नाले के निकट छोटे पुल, पटपड़गंज, लक्ष्मीनगर व गाजीपुर के निकट अंडरपास तथा रिंग रोड व अक्षरधाम के निकट ओवरपास भी चौड़े होंगे। एक सीआईएसएफ-विजयनगर के बीच और दूसरा लालकुआं के पास, दो नए बड़े ओवरब्रिज बनाए जाएंगे | कई अंडरपास, फुट ओवरब्रिज व बस स्टैंड बनाए जाएंगे। इनमें खोड़ा, साईं मंदिर, शिप्रा मॉल, विजयनगर शामिल हैं।
Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system will be installed on barricaded stretch, which is part of Meerut expressway and the design speed will be 120 kmph.
Other eight lanes - four on each side - would be a normal highway and commuters won't have to pay the toll.
